The essence of zarzuela comes together in Eurostars Casa de la Lírica 4*, a hotel which presents itself as a new space where the uniqueness and importance of a genre which came into existence and lived as ours to this date is celebrated.

This space dedicated to the purest lyrical beauty, offering us the chance to explore the musical history of 20th-century Spain. As soon as you enter, you will be greeted by the familiar words of the refrain from La verbena de la Paloma, which accompanied by the irony of Doña Francisquita or the props of Gigantes y cabezudos [Giants and Big Heads] will transmit the hotel’s spirit. This is also present in the 84 rooms of the Casa, as each one has the name of a title representative of zarzuela. Eight works have been selected due to their renown and importance in order to give soul to hotel stays: La verbena de la Paloma, Doña Francisquita, Gigantes y cabezudos, La perfecta casada, La Parranda, Luisa Fernanda, La patria chica and La Revoltosa.

Inside the rooms, images, staves and details abound, giving the room a language and personality of its own. The photographs found here have been loaned to Eurostars Hotels by the National Museum of Theatre and the Centre for Documentation and Archives (CEDOA) of the Spanish Society of Authors and Editors (SGAE).

The basement floor is especially dedicated to two of the figures who contributed the most light and flair to the zarzuela genre. In one of the rooms, Tomás Bretón, father of La Verbena de la Paloma, is waiting for us. His memory is not alone, as in a nearby room we find the author of La patria chica and La Revoltosa, Ruperto Chapí, who presides over a room dedicated to his oeuvre.

On this journey through history we find artists like Victoria de los Ángeles, Plácido Domingo, Montserrat Caballé, Ainhoa Arteta, María Bayo, Carlos Álvarez and Jorge De León. All of them have been part of the evolution of a genre which Eurostars Casa de la Lírica today gives back to all those who want to experiences its unique and irreplaceable character.
